Why can't I burn a DVD?

I've got a DVD RW drive in my computer & I've installed Nero Burning, it only let's me click the CD on.. it doesn't let me press DVD. It doesn't let me does it on WMP either, I go onto burn & it says connect a burner then restart the player..
